Vatican City, December 3, 2012 (Agenzia Fides): To get the people of God to know the missions through the press, with the aim to elicit missionary cooperation through vocations, spiritual communion and materials: This is the purpose that brought the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, in the Assembly of its Supreme Council (April 1927), to the foundation of Fides Agency.

Fides began its activity in the same year, immediately after the Feast of St. Francis Xavier, Patron of the Missions, who was also one of the major missionary protagonists of missionary information. The first editions in English, French and Polish (the latter for a short period) were followed by those in Italian (1929), Spanish (1930) and German (1932). With the coming of the Internet, which replaced printed paper, editions in Chinese (1998), Portughese (2002) and Arabic (2008) were added.

The General Rapporteur of the Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization, Cardinal Donald William Wuerl, in his "Report after the Discussion", said: "Many fathers spoke of the importance of social media, in particular the new electronic means, when the Church is committed to its ministry of proclaiming the Good News". An underlining that reaffirms the validity and commitment of Fides Agency for the mission Ad Gentes and for the New Evangelization in the third millennium.
