Honiara, October 30, 2008 (CCS): On 30th October 2008, Catholic Communications officially launched their website, "Catholic Church Solomon Islands". One News was the first to get a sneak peek at the new site during an interview with site creator, Carol Labbad, Communications and Web Officer for Catholic Communications, volunteering from Australia.

The website www.catholicchurchsolomonislands.com contains all sorts of useful information about Catholic churches throughout the Solomon Islands. The various links include News, Diocese/Parish information, Congregations, Events and Radio BOSCO.

During the interview with One News, Carol said "the site is very easy for everyone to use and access information.for example finding out about mass times or an upcoming event are just a click away no matter where you are in the world."

A highlight of the site is the News section which enables the site visitor to view current and past issues of Voice Katolika, the quarterly newsletter of the Catholic Church.

The website even has a section dedicated to the recent World Youth Day celebrations held in Sydney, Australia. This includes a gallery of breathtaking photos from the event plus various personal experiences of the Solomon Island pilgrims who attended.

Carol emphasised the importance of creating such a site and said "It is necessary for Catholic Communications to remain at the forefront of technology particularly as the internet is becoming more widely used in the Solomon Islands. The website allows us to create a link not only to the local community in the Solomon Islands but also to the rest of the world."

Carol is currently training Catholic Communications’ staff members to maintain the site to ensure the information is always up to date. Theresa Dola, Website trainee, says that the new website "educates and empowers people who visit the site whilst also allowing the Catholic Church to have a voice all around the world."
