Rome, December 21, 2007 (H2Onews/Zenit/SIGNIS): The Catholic news service H2Onews has launched the beta version of its website www.H2Onews.org on December 21, 2007. This new initiative aims to offer multimedia content to Catholic televisions, radios and websites in eight languages.

H2onews is a Catholic news service on a worldwide scale that creates and distributes multimedia news, every day, in eight languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. The news focuses on the life of the Church and on social and cultural events that directly pertain to Catholics living in the world.

The news and multimedia services are to be offered free of charge to Catholic television, web sites and radio stations.

The service is designed as a digital collaborative platform that lets everyone share their video professionalism. Other television and producers are therefore invited to be active participants of this platform and share information, reports, interviews and music videos.

The project was born in the realm of the First World Congress of Catholic Television in Madrid in October 2006 to respond to the need for growth in worldwide Catholic communication.

"H2Onews is an information agency at the service of television and radio stations around the world. It is a simple idea, rising from a need, linked to the important growth of Catholic realities in televised material," stated Monsignor Enrique Planas, general coordinator of H2Onews, in an interview with Zenit.

"The bishops and higher ecclesiastical authorities view with hope this initiative that, desiring to serve the Church, has established itself as an autonomous reality, accompanied by important personalities of the Church and the communication world, which will guarantee both the professionalism and an ecclesial, evangelizing direction."
